Vinculum1

This lovely sweater, with just a bit of texture at the cast on edges and smocking across the shoulders is a versatile addition to any wardrobe. The V neck shaping is echoed by a V at the back of the neck. The smocking is continuous across the front shoulder and the back shoulder, where it’s attached to an angled back for a better fit.

At the armholes, the fronts and back split. The back is gently shaped and then short rows are added to make a peak of fabric at the center back. The smocked fronts of the sweater wrap over the tops of the shoulders to create the back neck shaping, then they are seamed into the short row peak on the center back. This creates a V at the neck in both front and back, with angled shoulders for fit and continuous smocking pattern over the shoulder. This sweater is designed to be worn with 1-2 inches (2.5-5cm) of positive ease. The narrowest point of the sweater will hit at the natural waist. Sweater is shown in 37 inch finished size on a 36 inch bust.

Free Pattern Release: Fenced In Afghan

Boy have I been busy! The new collection is almost ready to go, and I’ve been hard at work on holiday projects. One of them was so much fun, I thought you’d all like to knit it too! I wrote up the pattern and now it’s available for free.

Fenced In Afghan

This cozy afghan is knit in modular pieces in garter stitch for a soft, cushy blanket. The modular design makes it very easy to adjust the size for a lap afghan or a baby blanket. You could even change the yarn weight and needle size and just knit it until it’s as big as you want it. It’s also a great way to use up all those scrap yarns!

This afghan is worked with modular pieces that are picked up and knitted from the existing pieces, beginning with the large mitered square in the bottom right corner. Each full square consists of a large mitered square, two rectangles and a smaller mitered square that completes the full square. Squares on the left and top edges are not full squares, but consist of one or more modular pieces as described in the pattern. Work each square in number order according to the diagram, working from Square 1 to Square 48. When all 48 squares are complete, a border is picked up and knitted on using the longer circular needle, plus 4 small mitered squares in each corner of the border.

Confluence Collection Preview

Peek at the Confluence Collection

Knitting on the new collection is done, and Caro was here for the photoshoot on Friday. I saw the photos in camera and I’m sooo excited to see them full sized! It was fun (if a little cold), and I’m really excited to show you more.

Here’s a little to whet your appetites. The Confluence Collection includes a cardigan (the smocked fabric at bottom left) in Swans Island Merino Worsted, a vest (the top right) in Anzula Mariposa, a shawl (top left) in Impulse of Delight Merely Lace, a pair of socks (bottom right) in Lorna’s Laces Solemate, a pair of fingerless gloves in Artyarns Cashmere Sock, and a pair of legwarmers in Rowan Purelife British Sheep Breeds DK.

It looks like it will be ready to release in November. What do you think?
