A simple geometric lace pattern is transformed when worked across the width of this triangular shawl. Motte means “moth” in German, and the subtle colors and winged motif would put the most beautiful moth to shame.
Blue Version
Gauge: 20 stitches and 30 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette after blocking.
Finished Measurements: 46 inches (117 cm) across the top, and 16 inches (41 cm) from neck to bottom point.
Yarn Requirements: 220 yards of worsted weight yarn. Shown in Lorna’s Laces Pearl in ‘Sheridan’
Needle Size: 5mm (US 8) circular or straight needle for flat knitting or size needed to obtain gauge.
Purple/Pink Version
Gauge: 15 stitches and 26 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette after blocking
Finished Measurements: 60 inches (152 cm) across the top, and 22 inches (56 cm) from neck to bottom point.
Yarn Requirements: 496 yards of sport weight handspun single ply wool/mohair from Ethnicity Goddess Roving in ‘Paradise’
Needle Size: 4mm (US 6) circular or straight needle for flat knitting or size needed to obtain gauge.

Stitches Used: knit, purl, k2tog, k3tog, p2tog, p2tog through the back loop, yo, ssk, sl1 k2tog psso.
Other Details: This shawl is worked from one corner along the wingspan, increasing for the back point, and then decreasing again to the other corner.
